Academic Success

We know that education is the key that opens doors to nearly limitless possibilities for young people.

Afterschool academic support helps kids stay on track throughout the school year, while fun and engaging summer programming combats summer learning loss in areas like math and reading. Every day at the Club, our skilled and caring staff provide the guidance and encouragement that young people need to progress grades annually and graduate from high school with a plan for the future.
Power Hour
For one hour each day, Monday through Thursday, BGCA Clubs stop everything to provide dedicated time for homework completion. By providing the time, space, and support, Club staff not only ensure that our members are ready for school the following day, but they demonstrate to youth their dedication to academic achievement.
Project Learn
Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities, including leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help, tutoring and games that develop young people’s cognitive skills.
DIY STEM
Each Club provides members with hands-on, creative STEM programming to engage youth and spark an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. Our STEM programs are either created in-house by BGCA staff or run in partnership with STEM-focused organizations.
Digital Literacy
Digital Literacy Essentials activities are engaging and exciting project experiences. They guide youth ages 8-15 to explore digital safety, digital privacy, digital presence, online communication and retro gaming. Delivered through MyFuture, Digital Literacy Essentials activities allow youth to upload projects, build a digital portfolio, and earn stars and badges.
Summer Brain Gain
BGCA is committed to ensuring that America’s youth, especially those who need us most, graduate from high school on time with a plan for the future. That’s why we launched Summer Brain Gain – a summer learning loss prevention program developed specifically for Boys & Girls Clubs to integrate into their traditional summer schedule.
Robotics
Our Robotics programs engage members in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) in a way that is fun, educational, and creative. Members as young as 6 years old can learn to build and program robots. At the Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana, we are building a program where we can foster members' robotics and programming skills starting in early elementary school and continuing through middle school and high school.
Media Making
Media Making is our marketing program partnership with the Daily Iberian editors and Teen Muse, in collaboration with AOS Community Media. This initiative aims to empower youth by equipping them with essential skills for marketing themselves in future professions.
Lyricism 101
Recognizing the power of the literary arts, Lyricism 101 positions Club members as torchbearers and experts in the ancient oral poetic traditions that continue to thrive around the world. The program gives teens an opportunity to tell their stories, build community and express their artistic visions through the music of hip-hop culture and the culture of the cipher.
National Arts Competition
Annual contest inspires creativity and skill development in photography, visual arts and digital design. The National Arts Contest recognizes Club members for their accomplishments in visual, digital and performing arts through the following BGCA legacy arts programs: National Fine Arts Exhibit and ImageMakers National Photography Program.
Please contact your local Club for additional programs offered.
