Randy Prather Boys & Girls Club Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Celebrate New Facility Opening

Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana invites the Crowley community to celebrate and learn about the new Club facility and Cox Innovation Lab

Crowley, LA - Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana is proud to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest facility, set to take place on November 1st. The ceremony will be held at the new location at 1120 W. Hutchinson Avenue and will mark a significant milestone in expanding opportunities for local youth.

This state-of-the-art facility is designed to offer a safe and nurturing environment where children and teens can participate in a variety of programs, including academic support, arts, sports, and leadership development. The ribbon-cutting event will feature special remarks from local dignitaries, community leaders, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana representatives, followed by tours of the facility.

“After years of hard work and commitment from the Crowley community, supporters, and Boys & Girls Club staff, we are incredibly excited to open the doors of the Randy Prather Boys & Girls Club. The Club named after Randy Prather, President of First National Bank of Louisiana, has been an advocate for providing youth with a safe place, positive mentors, and opportunities to discover their full potential,” said Rhyan Wheeler, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana. “We want to thank our longtime supporters COX for their investment in the COX Innovation Lab, where youth have access to state-of-the-art technology. The Randy Prather Boys & Girls Club represents our ongoing commitment to providing opportunities to youth throughout the state.”

In addition to welcoming the new Club, Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana will celebrate the launch of a new technology-filled Innovation Lab. The donation is part of greater gifts from the James M. Cox Foundation and Cox Communications to open 11 additional Cox Innovation Labs in Arizona, California, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Nevada and Virginia; develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programming; and provide training for Boys & Girls Club staff this year.

The Cox Innovation Labs are the cornerstone of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Club Tech program, which provides students access to curriculum to advance their computer literacy skills and help bridge the digital divide for children without access to a computer or internet connection at home.

Within the new Randy Prather Club, the Cox Innovation Lab will give local Boys & Girls Club members the freedom to explore their interest in STEM while providing those without a computer or internet access a way to get connected and manage through distance learning. The lab includes TVs, laptop computers, gaming chairs, tablets, Wifi and internet services provided by Cox.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this new lab and 20 years of innovation, thanks to the generosity and vision of the James M. Cox Foundation,” said Erin Monroe, Market Vice President for Cox Greater Louisiana. “Every child deserves the opportunity to dream big, and as a longstanding partner of Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana, Cox remains committed to providing Crowley with the resources our community needs to help build a better future for the next generation.”

Cox and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are excited to roll out an exciting interactive campaign to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the labs right here in Crowley.

In addition, Cox continues to make great strides in expanding broadband access in Greater Louisiana. Through community partnerships with organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs, Connect2Compete (C2C) and CARES Act funding, Cox is moving the needle on bridging the digital divide for families and students across the communities it serves.
